Planning your move

When should I begin contacting Allstate Moving for a free moving estimate?

Providing the notice in advance is the best option, especially during busy summer season. Six weeks before the actual move date is a great time frame for all proper preparations, including in-home estimate, if it’s needed.

When is the Best time to move?

Summer months are the busiest for moving companies, from the beginning of May and until the end of September. Last days for each of these months are extremely busy for pretty much any moving company. If you prefer some extra flexibility with dates, we recommend you planning your move outside of the Summer season and/or in the beginning or the middle of a month.

When do I need an in-home visual moving estimate?

In most cases, moving companies can give you estimate over the phone, based on the list of the items supplied by you. In rare cases, mostly for big moves (2000 sq ft houses+), in-home estimates might be needed.

Preparing for your move day

What should I keep on my moving day?

Please keep all items you and your family might need while traveling to your new home. Basic items include toothbrushes, snacks, chargers, towels, change of clothes, some medications; Important paperwork, like passports, IDs, check books, cash and highly valuable or personal items. Place all these items in boxes separate from what you send with us and don’t forget to take them with you.

Will you help me pack my items or should I box everything myself?

We will pack as much or as little of your belongings as you request. While protective furniture padding is included in every move, all additional packing supplies & labor (e.g.: boxes, tv packs, bubble wrap, mattress covers, etc.) are considered an extra service and would be included to your final charges. We also offer a full pack service if you prefer us to handle the entire packing process for you. Please let us know in advance if you require help with any basic or special packing.

How much should I tip my movers?

Our movers will never ask you for a tip, but they are allowed to accept tips. We encourage our customers to tip whatever they feel is necessary for the job that was completed.

What box size is the best for moving?

There is no single box size that is best for any given situation. Different items require different boxes and the best possible option here is a combination of boxes:

  • Small boxes (up to 2 cu ft) are best for heavy items, such as books, tools, etc.
  • Medium boxes (3 cu ft) are ideal for items such as kitchen items, small appliances, etc.
  • Large boxes (up to 5 cu ft) are best for lightweight, bulky items such as lampshades, stereo speakers, electronic equipment etc.
  • Wardrobe boxs (16 cu ft) are best for packing items from your closets and dressers and for larger light items such as sofa cushions.

Payments, costs & coverage

What factors may affect my move cost?

  • Amount of space used in a truck (additional items added on the pick up).
  • Number of flights of stairs, elevators & distance of walk from the truck to the load and unload locations.
  • Special packing for fragile and bulky items.

What types of payment does Allstate Moving accept?

We accept post office money orders, cashier’s checks and cash for any charges. We may also accept a personal check for the first half of your balance that is due at pick up if your delivery is scheduled at least 7 days from that day. Unfortunately, we are not able to accept personal checks for the balance remaining at delivery location.

What coverage options do I have for my move with Allstate Moving?

We offer two options: Basic and Premium. Basic coverage is included in every move as required by DOT regulations. It covers 60 cents per pound per article with a total limit of $10,000. If you would like to guarantee a better protection for your belongings, we may refer you to one of our insurance partners who can supply you with a flexible coverage for the entire move or any specific items. How does our claim department work?

Although our moving teams are highly professional and do everything they can to prevent damages, unfortunately damages sometimes occur. If during your move, or following your move you notice a damage to an item please contact one of our customer care specialists (206-899-1781) and we will guide you through our claim process.
